SNS Review 2018

More and more, I am starting to lose interest with all these social networking services.

Facebook has lost its appeal because my timeline has started to look like a long boring stream of babies, travels, and get-togethers of people I barely know anyways. Not to mention the persistent articles about Duterte or Trump many of which are most likely fake or at the very least biased. The ads are also a never ending reminder of what I have been searching for at the internet.

Instagram is starting to lose its appeal for similar reasons though people there are more focused on travel pictures and the occasional selfies. Not surprisingly, most of the pictures I see are cross posts from Facebook anyways. IG Stories got me hooked for a while but that was just a phase it seems. The ads are also becoming more intrusive as they are just showing up everywhere … in both my timeline and in my stories.

Twitter is where I spend most of my time now though I have to point out that sometimes, it can become a never ending stream of useless chatter. At least there’s very few pictures of babies and travel, and most of the posts are insightful personal commentaries on what’s happening in this world. I usually follow other foreigners living in Japan and a few tennis players to make sure I get relevant posts on my Twitter feed.

YouTube is still interesting to me in a way, though I always find myself lost in the YouTube rabbit hole watching endless singing competitions, funny home videos, pseudo documentaries, and of course, cats and dogs. It still keeps me entertained but maybe just an alternative when nothing interesting is on Japanese TV.

I should be spending more time on WordPress and start writing more blogs though I always find myself lost in the never ending stream of useless pictures and videos all over my social networks. This blog entry is one of those rare occasions I succeeded disconnecting from these sites, and actually writing something for my blog.

Come to think of it, writing is still the most fulfilling for me, as I know putting my ideas in writing helps me keep them for eternity.

At least until WordPress shuts down.
