What is KitaSoon?
KitaSoon is a simple event planning app designed for the kinds of gatherings that happen every day—lunch with friends, weekend hikes, language exchanges, board game nights, piano meetups, coffee chats, or community events.
Instead of long group chats where details get buried, KitaSoon gives each event its own shareable page containing everything people need to know: what, when, where, why, and how.
Whether you’re organizing something for two people or a few dozen, KitaSoon helps everyone stay on the same page.
Why I Built It
I’ve always enjoyed organizing small gatherings, but I found that existing event platforms were often designed for large public events, while messaging apps became difficult to manage as conversations grew.
Important details would get lost, attendees would ask the same questions repeatedly, and it became difficult to keep track of who was actually coming.
KitaSoon was built to solve that problem by giving every event a permanent home that can easily be shared with anyone.
How It Works
Creating an event takes only a few minutes.
Organizers create an event page containing:
- What the event is
- When it happens
- Where to meet
- Why people might want to join
- How participants should prepare
Events can be shared using a simple link.
Events may be:
- Private, where only people with the link can access them.
- Public, where they also appear on the organizer’s public profile and can be discovered by followers.
RSVP Made Simple
Guests don’t need to create an account just to respond.
Anyone with the event link can RSVP directly from their browser.
Participants can choose whether they are:
- Going
- Interested
- Waitlisted
- Not Going
Organizers can optionally limit attendance, allow guests to bring additional people, and automatically promote people from the waitlist when space becomes available.
For Frequent Organizers
Users who create an account unlock additional features.
They can:
- Create and manage multiple events
- Build a public organizer profile
- Follow other organizers
- See upcoming public events from people they follow on their home page
This makes KitaSoon useful not only for one-time gatherings but also for clubs, communities, and recurring meetups.
Built for Sharing
Every event has its own dedicated page that can continue to serve as the single source of truth before and after the event.
People can:
- Share event links
- Add events to their calendar
- See updates after edits
- View cancellations without losing the original event page
This avoids the confusion of outdated messages scattered across different chat conversations.
Designed for Everyone
KitaSoon currently supports both English and Japanese and automatically displays event times in each visitor’s local time zone.
The app is also installable as a Progressive Web App (PWA), allowing it to feel more like a native app while remaining accessible from any modern web browser.
Looking Ahead
KitaSoon is an ongoing personal project that I continue to improve based on real-world use and feedback.
Recent work has focused on improving performance, privacy, guest participation, accessibility, mobile responsiveness, and the overall experience for both organizers and attendees.
The goal remains simple:
Make organizing small events effortless.
