KitaSoon is a simple event-planning app for the gatherings that happen in everyday life: lunch with friends, weekend hikes, language exchanges, board game nights, tennis meetups, coffee chats, and community events.

Instead of letting important details disappear inside a busy group chat, KitaSoon gives every event its own shareable page. The time, place, description, preparations, and RSVPs stay together, so everyone knows where to find the latest information.

Whether you’re inviting two people or a few dozen, KitaSoon helps everyone stay on the same page.

Why I Built It

I enjoy bringing people together, but I found that the available tools were often either too much or not enough.

Large event platforms felt overly complicated for casual gatherings. Messaging apps were convenient at first, but important details quickly became buried as the conversation grew. People would ask the same questions, plans would change, and it became difficult to know who was actually coming.

I built KitaSoon as a simpler middle ground: a permanent, shareable home for each event without the overhead of a large event-management platform.

How It Works

An organizer creates an event page with the essentials:

• What the event is
• When it starts and how long it lasts
• Where everyone should meet
• Why people might want to join
• What participants should bring or know

The organizer can then share the event using a single link.

Events can be private or public. Private events stay off the organizer’s public profile and event feeds but can still be shared directly. Public events appear on the organizer’s profile and may also appear in the home feeds of people who follow them.

If the plans change, the organizer updates the original event page. Even cancelled events keep their page, preventing an outdated message or link from becoming the wrong source of information.

Simple RSVPs, With or Without an Account

People can respond as Going, Interested, or Not Going.

Guests do not need to create an account just to RSVP. They can choose a nickname and respond directly from their browser.

Organizers can also:

• Set a total attendance limit
• Decide how many additional guests each participant may bring
• See who is going or interested
• Keep track of accompanying guests
• Manage attendance without maintaining a separate list

When a Going party cannot fit within the remaining capacity, KitaSoon automatically places the whole party on the waitlist. As space becomes available, eligible parties are promoted automatically.

Organize Related Events With Series

Organizers can group related public events into a Series, such as weekly tennis, board game nights, home parties, or neighborhood activities.

Each Series has its own public, shareable page. Visitors can browse its upcoming and recent events without signing in.

People who create an account can follow all public events from an organizer or select only the Series that interest them. Matching events then appear on their KitaSoon home page.

A Series is an organized collection rather than a fixed recurring schedule, so every event can still have its own time, location, capacity, and details.

Follow the Events You Care About

A KitaSoon account makes it easier to stay connected across events and devices.

Signed-in users can:

• Create and manage multiple events
• Add a name and profile photo
• Build a public organizer profile
• Create and manage Series
• Follow organizers or selected Series
• See relevant public events on their home page
• Keep their RSVPs connected to their account
• Browse upcoming and recent past events
• Filter events by organizer, follow, RSVP, waitlist, or cancellation status

Public profiles and Series can still be explored without an account. Signing in is only needed for features such as organizing, following, and keeping participation connected across devices.

Reminders and Important Updates

Signed-in participants can choose to receive email or device notifications.

KitaSoon can notify people who are Going about:

• Upcoming event reminders
• Event cancellations
• Changes to the time or location
• Promotion from the waitlist

Followers can also choose to receive announcements when a profile or Series they follow publishes a new public event.

Email and device notifications are controlled separately, allowing each person to decide how they want to hear from KitaSoon.

Built for Sharing

Each event page acts as the single source of truth before, during, and after an event.

People can:

• Share event, profile, and Series links
• Add events to their calendar
• Return for the latest details
• See when plans have changed
• View cancellations without losing the original page

This avoids the confusion of outdated information scattered across different chat conversations.

Accessible Wherever People Are

KitaSoon supports English and Japanese and displays event times appropriately across time zones.

It works in modern web browsers on phones, tablets, and desktop computers. It can also be installed as a Progressive Web App, providing an app-like experience without requiring a traditional app-store download.

KitaSoon also includes an offline fallback and preserves useful recently viewed information when a connection becomes unreliable.

An Ongoing Personal Project

KitaSoon is a personal project that continues to evolve through real-world use and feedback.

Recent improvements have focused on Series, event discovery, notifications, profiles, privacy, accessibility, mobile usability, offline resilience, and making the experience faster and more reliable for both organizers and participants.

I’m continuing to improve KitaSoon while keeping its purpose intentionally simple:
