Upgrading Our Workspace: From Budget Lighting to a Multi-Functional Ceiling Fan

When we moved here in 2021, we realized we didn’t have ceiling lights, so we went to Yamada Denki and bought some inexpensive ¥2,000 lights from Iris Ohyama, just to get by for a few days. Since then, we’ve gradually replaced most of them with higher-quality, more expensive lights, except in one room—our workspace.

That changed this week when we finally decided to upgrade. We chose the Flat Fan O3 from Odelic, which was quite a leap from the original Iris Ohyama lights. This new fixture combines both a light and a fan, freeing up floor space that was previously occupied by our desk fan.

The Flat Fan O3 from Odelic

We initially considered using the same Odelic DC Motor Fan we already have in the living room and bedroom, but eventually decided on a ceiling fan that also doubles as a ceiling light. Since we’ve been happy with the brand’s fans, we stuck with Odelic for this purchase as well.

It arrived today, and I’ve already set it up. So far, it’s been great. Initially, we thought it might be too big, but we quickly realized it actually balanced the room nicely. Before, the space felt bottom-heavy, with most of the items and black accents concentrated on the lower half. Now, it feels more evenly distributed. The walls are still bare, but that’s a project for another day.

Updated workspace with new ceiling fan/light

We also appreciate being able to adjust the light temperature, switching to a warm tone when we’re relaxing and a cool white when we’re working. It even has an ozone feature, which is supposed to help clean the air, though we’re not sure if we’ll ever use it or if we’d notice a difference. Still, it’s nice to have the option.

We’ll see how it goes, but given our experience with Odelic fans, we’re confident it’ll be fine. Odelic FTW!
