Ever since I got my first iPhone, the 3G, I’ve been very religious in upgrading my iPhone at least every two years. What can you say? I was an Apple fan boy. I still am.
This year, however, even if my iPhone 7 is already 2 years old, and the new iPhone XS just came out, I don’t feel like upgrading. I’ll hold on to my iPhone 7 for at least another year.
For one thing, the Xs is super expensive! The iPhone prices have reached a point where making regular upgrades is no longer a practical biannual proposition. Maybe I should move to at least a three year cycle from now on. That’s going to be easier on the wallet.

Another thing, I’m starting to have a preference for smaller, simpler phones. I think I’ve been less dependent on my iPhone, and moving more to using my Apple Watch. The phone stays in the pocket, or in the bag most of the time now.
In the future, once the Apple Watch evolves into a full-featured independent device, I plan ditch the iPhone altogether.
All the new iPhones are bigger than my current iPhone 7, and I would have bought the iPhone SE had they not discontinued it. I’m still hoping they’d release an upgraded SE in the near future.
Also, I checked my SoftBank contract and for some reason, looks like it’s not expiring this year. It will expire next year just in time for the 2019 iPhone whatever that may be.
More than the new iPhone, I may be interested in getting the new Apple Watch, but then again, I just got mine last year, and most likely, that purchase will have to wait another year at least.
Better start saving up for 2019 then.
